How Much Cash Can I Bring Out Of Malaysia

Traveling abroad required the traveler to bring along with them a lot of cash.

However, there are some restrictions that need to be obeyed by all Malaysians when carrying a huge amount of cash out of Malaysia.

This restriction came into force to combat money laundering and terrorism financing issues among travelers.

Pursuant to Section 23 of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001 (AMLATFA), Malaysians leaving Malaysia with cash or any other monetary instruments exceeding the amount of USD10,000 or equivalent are obliged to make a declaration in Form Customs No. 22.

This declaration needs to be made at the counters located before the customs checkpoint at all exit points in Malaysia.

Failure to comply with this regulation can cause the traveler to be denied the right to leave Malaysia.

Thus, travelers are only allowed to bring cash, not more than USD10,000 or equivalent, out of Malaysia without needing to make any declaration to the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
